Itinerary

Departing from our local area, we journey south with adequate comfort breaks en route before arriving at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for our stay.

Departing the hotel after breakfast, we take a drive to the South Devon Railway where we enter a world of nostalgia as we enjoy a heritage steam train journey along the line in beautifully restored vintage carriages. Gently meander alongside the River Dart, through glorious Devon scenery, see the guard wave their flag, hear the engine blow its whistle and glimpse the wisps of white steam drifting past your window. After our rail journey we visit Buckfast Abbey to experience the serenity of the Abbey. Nestled in a valley on the edge of Dartmoor, the Abbey is home to a working community of Benedictine monks and is one of the top tourist attractions in the West Country. This jewel in Devon’s crown boasts a fascinating history, founded by King Canute in 1018, Buckfast Abbey was at the heart of the community until Catholic monasteries were dissolved by King Henry VIII. The site gradually fell into ruins, but several hundred years later, it was brought back to life by a group of exiled French monks. Between 1906 and 1937, they lovingly re-built the Abbey Church on the medieval foundations and re-established the monastery

T oday is a free day to relax and enjoy the delights of the seaside resort of T orquay.

Departing the hotel after breakfast, we journey to Exmouth, where we have included a cruise with Cream tea. There’s no better way to see England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast, than with a tour from the water. This circular cruise departs from Exmouth Marina and sails along the oldest section of the Site, known as the Triassic Era, with a commentary along the route. Sit back and relax, whilst 18 enjoying a freshly-baked fruit scone with clotted cream & jam and Tea/Coffee as we sail through time with the most stunning views of this 185-million-year-old geological portrait. After our cruise enjoy free time in Exmouth, known for its expansive sandy beaches, historic charm, and vibrant community.

Today we enjoy more highlights of South Devon as we travel to the regency town of Sidmouth, on the beautiful Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Described by Poet Laureate John Betjeman as “A town caught still in a timeless charm” . Take a stroll along the Millenium Walkway which stretches the length of the beach, enjoy the beautiful gardens, history and architecture, and explore the range of shops and cafés. It’s all here, in this lovely seaside town that is far enough off the beaten track, nestled beneath majestic red cliffs and green hills. Sidmouth is young at heart, but walking through the town feels like a trip back in time, offering an endearing and quintessential country charm. A truly unique resort.

Departing the hotel after breakfast we make our return journey, with suitable comfort breaks en route, to arrive home approximately late afternoon.
