Itinerary

Departing our local area, we travel to the West Coast of Scotland, with comfort breaks enroute before arriving late afternoon at the Royal Hotel in Oban.

This morning we travel on the morning ferry from Oban over to Isle of Mull. The journey is known for its scenic views and opportunities for marine wildlife spotting, if we are lucky, it is possible to spot dolphins, seals and whales. Our ferry will dock at Craignure, and we take in the sights as we travel north to the harbour town of Tobermory. This harbour was made famous as being the setting for the children TV show Balamory, and is one of the prettiest ports in Scotland, thanks to the colourful houses and a sheltered bay where legend has it one of the Spanish Armada ships sank in 1588 carrying gold bullion. Built as a fishing port in 1788 on a design by Thomas Telford, the town curves around the harbour and rises into the hillside beyond. The main street is a mix of shops, eateries, hotels and guest houses and has an excellent selection of locally produced arts and crafts. We have free time to explore and enjoy lunch before we return to the mainland.

Departing the hotel after breakfast, we journey over Connel Bridge for a scenic drive alongside Loch Creran and Loch Linnhe to the Glencoe Visitor Centre, where we make a break. Discover the fascinating history of the area and more about the landscape, history and wildlife. Enjoy the viewing platform, with spectacular sights across the magnificent scenery. This picturesque location has also been used in many films, including Hagrid’s Hut in Harry Potter. Leaving the visitor centre, we journey over the Ballachulish Bridge to Fort William, where we enjoy free time before returning to the hotel.

After breakfast we enjoy a scenic morning drive over the Clachan Bridge known as the 'Bridge Over the Atlantic' offering stunning views of the surrounding coastal scenery to the Isle of Seil, where we make a break. With its breathtaking scenery, rich history, and warm hospitality, the Isle of Seil is truly a hidden gem, home to several ancient sites, including Dun Mor Bhalla, an Iron Age fort perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. We enjoy a scenic journey back to Oban for free time, once the strategic heartland of powerful, feuding clans, the town is now renowned for its fresh seafood straight off the boats. Enjoy exploring local shops and attractions, as you are surrounded by beautiful scenery, including panoramic views of the mountains and lochs.

Departing the hotel after breakfast we make our return journey, with suitable comfort breaks en route, to arrive home approximately late afternoon.
