Discovering the Picturesque Beauty of Wiltshire and the Cotswolds

Departing the hotel after breakfast we travel to Cheltenham, where we have included a scenic ride on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, a volunteer-run heritage line connecting Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway. Experience the golden age of steam as you journey through beautiful Cotswolds scenery, enjoying views of charming hamlets, the Malvern Hills, and beyond as we follow the line to Broadway. Arriving in Broadway, you’ll have some free time to wander around this picture-postcard village, which is steeped in cultural heritage, the charming high street is lined with chestnut trees and a mixture of period houses and honey-coloured cottages. Re-joining the coach, we return to the hotel, with time to relax before our evening meal.

This morning, we enjoy a scenic journey through Wiltshire to Avebury, where we make a break to explore this delightful little village, known for the extraordinary wealth of prehistoric monuments that lie in and around it. We Continue our journey to Devizes, a historic market town where we make a break. Discover the colourful Medieval past, wealth of history and architectural heritage with more than 500 listed buildings and enjoy a large Market Place in the heart of the town, with a wide range of traditional independent shops. Our journey continues to the spectacular Caen Hill Locks, a masterpiece of Georgian engineering and a true ‘wonder of the waterways’ . We make a visit to witness this impressive flight of 29 locks, which opened in 1810 to allow boats to navigate a steep hillside. The highlight is the dramatic ‘staircase’ of 16 locks, where enormous side ponds create a unique and picturesque landscape, offering remarkable photo opportunities and a haven for wildlife.

Departing the hotel after breakfast, our scenic journey takes us to Marlborough. Explore the High Street, which is one of the widest in the UK, lined on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of high-quality shops. Boasting a heritage of wealth, the town has successfully blended its historic character with modern vitality, supported by a sophisticated café culture and diverse independent businesses. Leaving Marlborough, we enjoy our scenic return journey through Lambourn and to the hotel, where you can enjoy your surroundings and relax, or enjoy the superb leisure facilities.

Departing the hotel after breakfast we make our return journey, with suitable comfort breaks en route, to arrive home approximately late afternoon.
