Douglas, since 1869 has been the Isle of Man’s capital and the main tourist and commercial centre. The town has a 2-mile long promenade, lots of tourist attractions and there are numerous shops to browse around. Why not take a ride along the promenade on the world’s oldest horse-drawn trams or visit the Villa Marina and Gardens and the Manx Museum which are all well worth a visit. Situated in the heart of Douglas, the Empress Hotel commands a prime location on the Victorian Promenade overlooking Douglas Bay and a short walk from the town centre. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi, telephone, tea/coffee maker and are served by a lift. The hotel also features a leisure centre.

Itinerary

Departing from our local area, we journey to Heysham where we board the ferry for our afternoon crossing to Douglas on the Isle of Man. On disembarking in Douglas we continue to the hotel.

After breakfast, we travel on the steam train from Douglas to Port Erin, before our journey takes us down to the Calf of Man for lunch. After lunch we make a break at Cregneash, an old traditional Manx Village with its many thatched cottages. We continue to Port St. Mary and on to Castletown prior to returning to the hotel.

Today we travel for our coastal ride from Derby Castle, Douglas on the Manx Electric tram to Laxey, where we see the famous Laxey Wheel, before boarding the Snaefell mountain railway, a unique return journey which takes us to the highest point of the island. We continue our coastal journey on the Manx Electric tram to Ramsey, where free time is available. Departing Ramsey, we have views of the Point of Ayre as we join the famous T.T. circuit to complete our wonderful touring day.

Today we journey to Tynwald to visit a site of the Manx Parliament, before continuing to Peel, famous for its Cathedral, House of Manannan and the famous kippers. We return to the hotel via Douglas Head view point.

Today we depart Douglas for our morning crossing to Heysham. On disembarking we continue our homeward journey to arrive home late afternoon.
